Sutton On Trent Primary and Nursery School
Sutton on Trent Primary and Nursery school has been part of the community since 1878, playing a huge part in the lives of many who still reside in the village. The school has strong links with the wider community, and include the importance of caring for your community in their school values.
The school have received £810.12 in total from our Community Champions scheme, £363.04 in Winter 2013-14 and £447.08 from Summer 2022.
Funds from Community Champions has been used, along with other funds to make huge improvements to the playground. The new play area will almost double the all-weather surface area that the children can use during the wet months.
It will include imaginative play areas with a playhouse, coloured shelter, bridge, dry riverbed and boat. Social spaces created with benches and picnic tables. Raised bed areas providing growing spaces for each age group and a variety of floor finishes.
Mary (Community Co-ordinator), spoke to Rebecca Henderson from the school PTA who is involved in finding funding streams for the school, to what it means for their school.
She said, “I heard about Community Champions from being part of the committee for Weston Village Hall who had been successful applicants.
The process to apply was so simple. I have applied for many grants in the past which are often long winded and question heavy but the form was so easy and quick to complete.
The money is being put towards the biggest project we have ever taken on, and knowing that some of the funds have come from our own community makes it really special.
We have children whose parents and grandparents came to this school so to know that it is everyone who has pulled together just makes it extra special.
To anyone thinking of applying, just go for it!”
