Barrowby Food Store opens
Shoppers in Barrowby are now able to enjoy a range of local products and improved services, following the opening of a new food store.
The Lincolnshire Co-op convenience store opened its doors on Thursday 15th December. It will now be serving customers seven days a week from 7am until 10pm.
The £2.2m outlet is based on Low Road. The barn-style building’s materials and brickwork are traditional in design. A metal trellis covers one wall, encouraging natural greenery and complimenting the village’s landscape. Outside the store, a small seating area offers a community meeting point.
Inside, the store has an innovative eco-friendly refrigeration system that recycles energy produced to heat the store, resulting in a lower global warming impact. Energy usage is also reduced by around 20% due to the installation of fridge doors throughout. A soft plastic recycling service, and a water refilling station are also available in store.
Lincolnshire Co-op has its own membership scheme and members receive benefits including dividend when they shop, a yearly bonus and extra dividend on different ranges, such as the Love Local range which features food and drinks sourced from producers in nearby Grantham.
Every time a member shops at the outlet, a donation will be made to a good cause through the society’s Community Champions scheme. In the run up to the store’s opening, colleagues volunteered their time to previous Community Champion Grantham RiverCare, litter-picking and cleaning up nearby green spaces.
Store Manager Kim Morrant said: “We've already had a warm welcome from the community and there's been lots of interest in our membership scheme.
“It's been great to meet so many locals and we're looking forward to serving even more residents of Barrowby."
