Carlton Food Store is open!
Our £2m convenience store has opened on the High Street near Church Lane in Carlton, offering 20 parking spaces and a range of products and services, including freshly baked bread, local produce, and takeaway Costa drinks, on top of all a customer’s daily essentials.
The shop, which is open from 7am to 10pm seven days a week, has created 15 new jobs in the local area.
Energy usage in store is reduced by around 20%, due to the installation of fridge doors throughout, and the store will also provide soft plastic recycling and a free water bottle refill station.
Our colleagues have two days paid volunteering to use every year, and the team at Carlton have already made use of some of this time, as they lent a helping hand gardening at St Mary’s Church.
We are an independent co-operative society operating in Lincolnshire and the surrounding counties.
Carlton is the most northernly food store to have been opened by the society so far, although nearby to Carlton we have food stores in Haxey and Crowle, as well as a range of services in Scunthorpe – including a post office, pharmacy, food store, and funeral home.
Customers will be encouraged to become members, enabling them to collect dividend on their purchases, as well as having access to a range of exclusive offers and events.
Already, the branch is raising money through our Community Champions scheme, with funds going to Up For Yorkshire’s YO8 Youth Club, Selby’s only drop-in youth club offering a range of activities – from air hockey and X-Box to DJ workshops and football.
There’s also a food bank collection point situated in store, with all donations going to Selby and District Trussell Trust Foodbank.
Manager at Carlton Food Store, Lyndsay Kane, said: “We’ve got a fabulous team, a fantastic store, and I’m just really excited to serve the community of Carlton.
“We’ve had some great feedback already, everyone seems really pleased with what we’ve got to offer!”
