Plans announced for a new patient-centred wellbeing facility in Lincoln
Lincolnshire Co-op has announced plans to develop a new health and wellbeing facility in Lincoln’s Birchwood Centre, neighbouring the Lincolnshire Co-op food store.
Feedback from locals at a recent pop-up event in Birchwood Centre will help determine the site’s offering.
As well as receiving free health checks, passers-by were asked to vote on which services matter most to them, including those related to mental health, podiatry, diabetes, healthy heart, nutrition, and children’s health.
Over 120 health checks were delivered, 539 votes for services were made, and 37 people left additional comments.
Looking to the future, the society hopes to move the expert teams at Birchwood Pharmacy and Birchwood Health Centre Pharmacy, which was previously owned by Boots, into the new outlet, which will be substantially larger.
When the time comes, patients will automatically move over to the new pharmacy with their nominated pharmacy and will continue to collect their prescriptions and access services.
The proposed units have most recently been occupied by Seacroft Mobility and Bradlands Pet Shop.
Seacroft Mobility is moving to a larger location on Wragby Road and Bradlands Pet Shop recently moved to another unit within the Birchwood Centre.
The hub is anticipated to open late-2025, with development work and various NHS approvals needed to complete beforehand.
Laura Dunne, Chief Purpose and Proposition Officer at Lincolnshire Co-op, said: “This is an exciting opportunity to modernise the traditional pharmacy and reinvent it as a health and wellbeing destination, caring for patients and treating illnesses alongside supporting healthy lifestyle choices.
“We want to create a space that meets community need, which is why your feedback is so important to us. Thank you so much to everyone who stopped by our pop-up event and engaged with us.”
