Ski for less this winter
If skiing appeals but the price-tag is less enticing, why not venture off the beaten track?
Balkan Holidays offers breaks in Bulgaria, Slovenia and Romania which promise all the fun of the slopes without
hitting your pocket too hard.
Although Pamporovo in Bulgaria sees snow from December to April each year, it’s one of the sunniest resorts in Bulgaria and plenty of bars and restaurants mean that the apres ski scene is buzzing too.
If the aches and bruises all get a bit much, there’s plenty to do off the slopes as well. Beautiful monasteries and fortresses nestle in the Rhodope mountains and local guides lead hiking trips and excursions to natural thermal springs.
Here’s the best bit: a ski pass, boot hire, ski hire and pole hire for six days will set you back less than half the cost of a ski pass alone in the more mainstream resorts like Val d’Isere.
Balkan Holidays also offers trips to Romania and Slovenia, both of which have rates that stack up favourably compared to resorts elsewhere in Europe.
Lake Bled in Slovenia is an ideal place for beginners and families to ski; with glorious scenery, quaint towns and plenty of ski-runs for sporting types of all abilities, there really is something for everyone.
You’ll find Bled Island in the middle of the lake, where a pilgrimage church is home to murals some 500 years old. Meanwhile, the commanding Bled Castle on the lake’s banks is another local landmark well worth a visit.
It’s easy to find deals for flights and accommodation without breaking the bank, and with regional departures available for some trips, what are you waiting for?
