Spalding shop reopens after £400,000 refit

Lincolnshire Co-op’s Wygate Park Food Store in Spalding has reopened, following a major redevelopment.
Transformation work has led to the introduction of new services, increased accessibility of recycling and community initiatives, created more shelf space, improved sustainability, and a fresh new look.
New products and services are available instore, including a Tango Ice Blast machine, premium ready meals from Kumar’s Curry Club and a dedicated gifting range, which includes items from local suppliers such as Grantham-based Glorious Chocolate, Lincoln Tea and Coffee, and more.
A new Costa machine has been installed with additional features, enabling customers to purchase both hot and iced drinks. Lincolnshire Co-op members are also able to claim an extra 25p cashback when they use a reusable cup for their Costa drink.
Wygate Park is the first Lincolnshire Co-op store to have a community stand fitted, allowing customers to donate to their local food bank and recycle soft plastics and batteries in one place. The stand also has a community noticeboard, where local groups can display posters.
Additional sustainability solutions have been incorporated, including CO2 refrigeration, upgraded LED lighting, and insulated door curtains in warehouse refrigeration rooms, while energy-saving fridge doors and sustainable signage continues to be in place.
Customers can continue to access pre-existing services, such as food to go, fresh fruit and vegetables, and chilled wines and beers.
The society offers a Love Local range, which supports local businesses. As part of this range, shoppers can find products from Grasmere Farm, Fen Spirits and The Lincolnshire Drizzle Company within the Spalding shop.
Gavin Glover, Manager at Wygate Park Food Store in Spalding, said: “We’re pleased to be offering our community an even better shopping experience in a modern environment, with more products and services available and dedicated space for recycling initiatives and community messages.
“It’s been fantastic to have so many people come and visit us for our reopening, and the feedback we’ve received so far has been really positive.”
