Uncomplicated urinary tract infections
What is a UTI? (Urinary tract infection)
A urinary tract infection (UTI) is an infection that occurs in any part of the urinary system, including the kidneys, ureters, bladder, and urethra.
UTIs are commonly caused by bacteria entering the urinary tract, leading to symptoms such as frequent and painful urination, a strong urge to urinate, cloudy or bloody urine, and discomfort in the lower abdomen or back.
UTIs are usually treated with antibiotics prescribed by a healthcare provider.
What are the symptoms of a UTI?
Symptoms of a UTI typically include:
- A strong and persistent urge to urinate.
- Burning sensation or pain during urination.
- Passing frequent, small amounts of urine.
- Cloudy or bloody urine.
- Strong-smelling urine.
- Pelvic pain, especially in women.
- Rectal pain, especially in men.
- Fatigue or weakness.
- Fever or chills (in more severe cases).
It's important to note that symptoms may differ depending on the part of the urinary tract affected and the individual's age and health status.
