Pride holidays

This celebration of diversity, coming together and supporting the LGBTQ+ community brings with it the opportunity to experience the many colourful festivals and epic celebrations of different cities throughout Europe. What you need to know
We understand that there are unique challenges and experiences that LGBTQ+ individuals face while travelling. Policies and public acceptance of the LGBTQ+ community vary widely from country to country and even within some countries.
Staying safe is all about planning and awareness. When thinking about your next getaway there are a few things we recommend keeping in mind.
Awareness
Understanding the local laws and social attitudes is important, not just at a country level but also within the local area you'll be visiting. For example, often capital cities will be more accepting than rural areas. Get to know your destination and keep in mind your own identity and preferences. You know your comfort level but also what's important to you and want out of your holiday. Travelling with your partner for a romantic getaway has different elements to consider compared to a solo trip to soak up local culture or a fun vacation with friends. If you're nervous about travelling, a group trip is a great starting point.
Destination resources
A great starting point is the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) Travel Advice. Providing advice including the latest information, safety and security, entry requirements, travel warnings, and local laws and customs. Many of these pages also include country-specific information for LGBTQ+ travelers.
Visit the FCDO Travel Advice website.
The International Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Trans, and Intersex Association (ILGA) World Federation's world maps are a great resource. They are among the most shared visual representations of how LGBTQ+ people are affected by laws and policies around the world.
Visit the ILGA World Federation's world maps website.
There are many great resources online and in print, including LGBTQ+ guidebooks. It can be great to hear from other travelers that have experience with a destination you are thinking of or going to visit. Researching local and regional LGBTQ+ groups’ websites can also be beneficial as they can often offer the best information and advice on local laws and attitudes.
While researching, remember to keep in mind that everyone's identity and how they present themselves is different so experiences can be different for each individual. Other factors such as race, gender, and people's perceptions can also play a role in this.
Health and Medications
Be aware of local access to health services and that in some countries some medications may be banned.
You can find more guidance on the government website.
Planning and preparation
Never let fear hold you back from your travel adventures. One of the best ways to calm nerves is to make sure you’re prepared. When it comes to important documents and ensuring everything is in order, we’re here to help you set off with the knowledge that you’re ready to go.

Packing
Making sure you’ve packed everything you need is important but when travelling overseas remember to consider your destination. Every country has different cultural and gender expectations concerning clothing and fashion for everyone. Knowing local customs regarding fashion can help with travel planning and may be a factor when deciding a destination. Blending in with the locals is always safer but remember to honour yourself and most importantly, make sure you’re comfortable.
If you’ll be flying, be aware of what you’ll need to take through airport security. If this is something that worries you familiarise yourself with the airports security policies. Remember you can always ask for a private search and have someone accompany you so you’re not alone if there are any issues.
Don’t forget your first aid kit!
If you’re on medication make sure you have enough and a few extra, just in case. Take a copy of your prescription and if your concerned you can always request and additionally note from your GP.
Documentation
Make sure you have all the important documents you need. When traveling by air, you must provide proof of identity at check-in and at the security checkpoint. Make sure your reservations match the information displayed on your passport. If you can, you may wish to change your passport before travelling.
Read the governments additional guidance for applying for a passport.
